Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen tells KNIA KRLS News that measles has made a return in the United States. She says the disease had been eliminated from the country, through vaccinations. She says the contagious infection has been brought back from out of the US. Van Hulzen says even one report of measles is considered a public health emergency, because it had been eradicated. Symptoms include rash, cough, runny nose, eye irritation and fever. It can lead to ear infection, pneumonia, seizures, brain damage and even death. She says the best method of prevention is vaccination.
