Knoxville City Streets crews and Knoxville Fire and Rescue were on the scene Tuesday morning, trying to clear a blockage in the storm drain that resulted in significant standing water during this past Saturday’s storms. Public Works Supervisor Dennis Webb tells KNIA KRLS News that a log, approximately 15 feet long, was wedged in a bend in a drain located just east of the VFW on the north side of Jefferson Street. It was blocking debris from flowing through the drain. Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell was on scene as well, while firefighter Ben Truetken descended into the manhole and removed the log with a chainsaw. The fire crew flushed the drain from the west side of Lincoln Street, using the fire hose from the engine, and found a broken steel grate that is in need of repair. Webb says this will be addressed with the City.
