Mosquito-borne West Nile Virus recently made its first appearance in Iowa. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported the first human case of the illness in an adult male from Clay County. Recent heavy rains in Marion County may lead to increased populations, but Judi Van Hulzen, nurse with Marion County Public Health, says these “flood mosquitoes” do not carry West Nile, and it appears that the ones that do carry it are not in Marion County, so there’s no need to worry.
