Despite numerous flight cancellations at this year’s Balloon Fest, organizers described Friday night as a successful night of competition for pilots. The Friday evening Marion County Bank Cup Race allowed pilots to steer their flight pattern in many directions because of calm winds. The target was located above the North Overlook Beach and lagoon ponds, and they had a number of direct hits that night. Pilot Matt Fenster mastered his bean bag toss and came in first, followed by Benji Clemons and Bret Christian. Fenster also won the overall award. Thirty-one balloon pilots attended this year’s events.
