A Knoxville woman was injured early Sunday morning when the vehicle they were driving went off an embankment on Highway 5 near the English Creek Bridge south of Knoxville. At approximately 3AM Knoxville Rescue, the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that the driver of the vehicle, Lora Detling, swerved to miss a deer at the top of the hill and lost control, going off of the embankment and hitting several trees before coming to rest.
Detler suffered broken bones and other injuries, and was transported to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and then to Mercy in Des Moines. No charges were filed.
