Charges are filed against a Monroe man involved a fatal accident Sunday night north of Knoxville.
32-year-old Michael Liggett is charged with Homicide by Vehicle While Operating Under the Influence and Operating Under the Influence – 3rd Offense.
The Iowa State Patrol responded to the deadly collision at around 7:30 Sunday night near Highway 14 and G-44 north of Knoxville. Clayton Bennett Harsin of Knoxville was killed when a 2003 Frontier pickup rear ended him while he was operating a 1982 Yamaha motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup then fled the area following the accident. Authorities later arrested Liggett at a home on South Commerce Street in Monroe after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen.
Liggett appeared before a district judge Monday where bond was set at $160,000.00 cash or surety. A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for Friday at 9:30 am.
