Area emergency response personnel tell KNIA/KRLS News that they have had difficulty with drivers not noticing emergency personnel along roadways.

Director of Pella Ambulance Doug Polking says that the environment on roadways like Highway 163 are very dangerous for first responders. Polking adds that many drivers in the area are generally responsive to state laws, and says it’s a big problem in many other states. State law requires drivers to slow down and move to the right when ambulance, fire, and police are headed to help. Drivers should slow down and move to the left when personnel are pulled over assisting others. We’ll have more with Polking about the latest with Pella Community Ambulance on Let’s Talk Pella.
