Boaters and kayakers trying to fit in a few more rides before autumn comes should exercise caution when out on rapidly rising waters at Lake Red Rock.
According to the National Weather Service 5 to 10 inches of rain fell along the Des Moines and Raccoon River basins in central Iowa in the past two weeks. This excess water is causing inflows of more than 25000 feet per second through the end of the week, which can cause large, hidden debris to move into the lake with little or warning. According to the latest forecast from the Army Corps of Engineers, waters are expected to crest at 751 feet, or 9 feet above normal, on Saturday.
