September is National Preparedness Month and Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson defines emergency preparedness as preparing for events that are out of the daily norm.
Anderson says such events can range from pipes bursting to power outages to even more serious events, such as a fire, severe weather, or act of terrorism. He says having a plan for these types of situations has become more important over the last decade since 9/11.
