One person was transported to Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Thursday after a fiery crash along Highway 14 south of Knoxville.
The accident occurred at just before 8am at the intersection of G-76 when crews were called out to a vehicle on fire with a person inside. Columbia Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Pierce says the driver of the vehicle on fire had already exited the vehicle before crews arrived.
Columbia Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the vehicle fire and transported the driver to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was checked out by rescue crews at the scene.
Traffic was at a standstill for approximately 25 minutes and Highways 14 and G-76 officially reopened just before 9am.
Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt wanted to thank rescue crews for their quick response to the scene and help with traffic control. Sandholdt says the accident remains under investigation.
Columbia Fire Department, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and Marion County Emergency Management all responded to the call.
