smoke

This week marks fire prevention week.

Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkum says he urges local residents to be prepared as temperatures cool and furnaces turn on. He recommends that families go through a fire drill during the night time hours to make sure alarms are working and are loud enough to alert those that are sleeping. He says a good way to remember to keep smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in good working order is to change the battery every fall and spring around daylight saving time.
