The turn-around of the Central women’s soccer team has been incredible. Yesterday, the Dutch nabbed an overtime win over Simpson, 1 – 0, to nail down the second seed in the Iowa Conference tournament and a first round bye. Liz Daniels knocked in a corner kick from Abby Hillmer for the game winner. Central’s women finish the regular season 10 – 4 – 3 overall and 5 – 1 – 1 in the league, good for second place, their highest finish in program history. The Dutch will be at home against either Loras or Wartburg on November 5. Central’s men were involved in a high-scoring game, but wound up on the wrong end of it, losing 7 – 3 to the Storm. Dennis Forrest, Mark Hentschel, and Calvin Bill all found the back of the net for Central, who ended the regular season 5 – 12 overall and 2 – 5 in the Iowa Conference. The men have the number six seed in the league tournament, which starts on Saturday. Central is tabbed to play Luther in the first round, whom they lost to 3 – 0 earlier this season.
