A Knoxville man accused of shooting another man in the head is waiving his right to a preliminary hearing.

59-year-old Ricky Lee Hyatt has been charged with Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury, a Class C felony. Hyatt was arrested last month at a residence on the 900 block of North Roche Street. Knoxville Police were called there for an unknown reason and when they arrived Hyatt repeatedly told them, “I shot him.”

Officers then received a call from Knoxville Hospital and Clinic’s Emergency Department that said they were treating a male, later identified in court documents as 28-year-old Sean Vrban of Knoxville, who’d suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Vrban would eventually have surgery at Des Moines and was listed in fair condition.

A trial date for Hyatt has not been set.
