Many people may see the first flakes of the season falling from the sky this week, and it also might be time to break out the heavy winter gear.
The National Weather Service is preparing for an early snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures in parts of the state. Roger Vachalek with the National Weather Service says the first measurable snowfall usually takes place after December 1st southeast of the Des Moines metro. The best chance for snow in Marion County is tonight, with little to no accumulation of snow is expected at this time. Overnight lows on Tuesday and Wednesday night in the area are expected to drop into the upper teens. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest winter weather information.
