November is lung cancer awareness month.
More than 224,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer and more than 159,000 die from the disease each year, and is the leading cause of cancer deaths. One area woman was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer at the age of 33. Now 35, PCM Middle School Principal Stephanie Langstraat says the survival rate is grim for those who don’t catch it early, but says early detection is a challenge.
