Work on creating a new code enforcement funding assistance ordinance is underway in Knoxville.
The Knoxville City Council asked City Manager Harold Stewart to come up with wording for the ordinance that would identify triggers that would make it necessary for businesses to come up to code, as well as a way for the city to help out. The ordinance would provide funds for existing Knoxville businesses to bring their buildings up to code if necessary.
Stewart says any such funding mechanism for code upgrades at the city level would be unique to Knoxville.
