Survive would be one way to describe the Knoxville girls night against Davis County last night. The Panthers fought off a furious rally in the second half to close out the Mustangs 56-50 as heard live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA. It looked early on that Knoxville would blow the doors off of Davis County leading 26-11 with two minutes remaining in the first half, however the Mustangs closed the half on a 10-0 run to get back into the game. Knoxville was able to withstand several runs including falling behind with around two minutes remaining in the game. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports he was happy with how his girls reacted. Ashley Hawkshead led Knoxville with 16 points. The Panthers improve to 6-0 on the season and are tied with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont atop of the South Central Conference at 4-0, those two teams have a showdown on Friday night. The Knoxville boys suffered their first loss of the season with an 81-79 setback to Davis County. The Mustangs erased an eight point Knoxville lead between third and fourth quarters to get the win. Nathan Winters dropped in 22 points in the loss, Knoxville falls to 4-1 and 3-1 in the conference.
