The Iowa State Patrol reports that area roadways are partially snow covered and may be slick. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that gusty winds have caused drifting, and visibility may be be an issue while driving.
State plows are in operation, as are Marion county road crews on paved gravel roads as needed.
The National Weather Service reports that Extremely cold temperatures and wind chill values are forecast tonight into Wednesday morning. Strong northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts near 35 mph are likely to cause significant wind chills of 25 to 40 below zero through Wednesday morning. Patchy blowing snow is possible tonight anywhere where there is fresh snow pack and may lead to brief restrictions in visibility and icy roads. Bitter cold temperatures continue Wednesday night into Thursday where overnight lows of 10 to 15 below and winds chills as cold as 35 below zero are possible. Another shot of cold air from an clipper system brings strong northwest winds across the state Thursday night through Friday.
