Pella High School Counselor Teresa Thompson encourages students to apply for scholarships as deadlines rapidly approach, because the cost of college isn’t decreasing any time soon.
She says if it hasn’t happened already, parents and students need to have a discussion of how college will be paid for. Thompson says that finances are a big factor in selecting a school, but shouldn’t be the only one, because the actual cost of education can differ greatly from what the sticker price shows. She says any questions that families may have in regards to financial aid and selecting a school should be directed to their student’s high school guidance department.
