The month of January is designated as National Blood Donor Awareness month because this is the time of year supplies diminish rapidly.
Blood Bank Specialist at Pella Regional Health Center Eloise (El-o-ece) Seams (Sims) says many hospitals run low on blood in the month of January because many regular donors are unable to donate due to multiple holidays and vacations taken in November and December. She encourages local residents to consider giving blood once every eight weeks to help maintain a critical need at area hospitals and medical clinics.
