Representative Greg Heartsill says he’s encouraged by Governor Terry Branstad meeting a second time with leaders of both state houses about a proposal that could raise the gas tax as much as $.10 cents a gallon.

While he feels this means they’re likely still negotiating how to fund Iowa’s infrastructure, a solution must come this session. He says the Iowa Legislature can’t kick this issue down the road any further but knows at the same time any type of tax increase will not be popular.
Heartsill says a new proposal from the Iowa Senate would allocate $200 million dollars in surplus and give a portion to every county in the state to help with repairs to roads and bridges.
