State Senator Ken Rozenboom addressed many concerns when it comes to the state education budget.
He tells KNIA/KRLS News that the 1.25% proposed by Governor Branstad–and matched by the Iowa House in a proposal–is a “starting point,” but the number won’t meet the obligations the state has to schools.
“Senate Democrats certainly aren’t going to be content with that number, and I don’t know if I’d be content with that number,” Rozenboom says. “I think that’s a starting point, and there will be another side to that story and that’s what will get hammered out in the next few weeks.”
However, he says the six percent increase in State Supplemental Aid the Iowa School Board Association is looking for is “not feasible.” Rozenboom says the state has a habit of over promising on school funds and under delivering with the actual numbers, and says the Iowa Senate will begin debate once a bill makes it through the house.
