It was not pretty for the Central women’s basketball team yesterday at Simpson, as they dropped, 70 – 46, to begin the Iowa Conference doubleheader. Kenzie Vander Molen had just two points in 27 minutes of action, and the Dutch were led overall by Savanna Thornton, who had 12 points. The Dutch bench outscored the starters, 33 – 13, and the Storm scored 49 points in the first half to Central’s 15. On the men’s side, despite losing the turnover battle 15 – 4, the Dutch men clipped Simpson, 74 – 58. The Dutch were 10-for-25 from outside, and had four players in double figures, led by Nile Eckermann’s 18, and Kyle Newendorp’s 14-point, ten rebound effort. Central’s women fall to 9 – 9 on the season, 0 – 7 in the conference, while the men are 10 – 8 and 3 – 4, respectively. The Dutch are next on the road to Storm Lake to take on Buena Vista this Saturday.
