Pella Christian and Pella High played a pair of close basketball games last night live on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch weathered a late third quarter storm from the Eagles to win, 51 – 36. Tessa Howerzyl hit some long-range jumpers to put her team up by two going into the final frame, but the Eagles were outscored by Pella, 20 – 3 in the fourth. Howerzyl ended up with 14 points, as did Mackenzie Gustafson. The Lady Dutch are now 14 – 2 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 9 – 7. In the boys’ game, Isaac Naaktgeboren had 14 second half points, 11 in the fourth quarter, and the Little Dutch wound up with a 80 – 67 victory over Pella Christian. The score was 54 – 51 Pella after three, before the senior went on a tear and drained three buckets from beyond the arc. Mitch Fopma had an excellent game, scoring 16 points off the bench to lead the Eagles, and Naaktgeboren finished with a game-high 22. Pella improves to 13 – 2, the Eagle boys drop to 10 – 5. Both are in action next on Tuesday; Pella is at Knoxville, while Pella Christian plays at home versus Norwalk.
