With the 2015 -2016 Knoxville Community School District calendar approved, school officials are now working on the details of what needs to be done to make as smooth a transition as possible to two-hour late starts on Mondays.
Knoxville Superintendent Cassi Murra says one section that will get a serious look is changes to the school transportation system. She says additional transportation, while expensive, can improve learning, attendance, and create less stress on parents.
Murra adds that several community organizations that she’s spoken with are looking at creating programs for students during the late start time period. She feels the 6 months they have to prepare for the change is more than enough time to maneuver schedules and figure out logistics.
We’ll have more about the school calendar changes with Superintendent Murra on Let’s Talk Knoxville.
