
The Knoxville Police Department has arrested a man in relation to a reported home invasion over the weekend.
At about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Knoxville Police Officers were requested at a residence on E. South Street in Knoxville. Officers arrived and learned that a male had entered the residence and assaulted the 65-year old female resident. While at the residence, officers were provided information which led them to begin looking for 54 year old Knoxville resident, Fred Allan Smith. Smith was quickly located and arrested, and faces charges of robbery 1st degree, a class B felony and assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor. The investigation is ongoing. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Fire and Rescue and Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Drug Task Force assisted at the scene.
UPDATE:
Smith is listed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry after a 2003 incident, in which he entered a guilty plea to charges of burglary and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.
