State Senator Amy Sinclair and Representative Greg Heartsill held a town hall meeting at the Coffee Connection in Knoxville on Friday.
One major topic of discussion was the potential increase in the gas tax to pay for road and bridge infrastructure. Both Heartsill and Sinclair stressed their preference that the gas tax not be increased, and that funds come from existing revenues. Marion County Board of Supervisor Mark Raymie was in attendance, and shared his thoughts that the increase would hurt rural counties, in that it is regressive, and that the funds would likely be spent in our larger metropolitan areas and not returned to rural Iowa.
