The rules for debate were passed in the Iowa Senate last week, and local state senators are frustrated with the result.
State Senator Ken Rozenboom says Republicans proposed that for any bill to hit the floor for debate, it would require the signature 26 senators, regardless of party affiliation. He says the vote on rules was decided on a partisan basis and will continues to allow committee leaders or the Senate majority leader decide on what bills will go through the process. Rozenboom says while he’s frustrated with the result, he hopes bipartisan solutions can be found for many of the issues that the Iowa Senate faces.
