The Pella Fire Department assisted at a call at Dutchman’s Landing late Wednesday after officials say strong wind caused heat to build up in a wood burning stove.
Fire Captain Randy Bogaard tells KNIA/KRLS news the department responded to the call of smoke building up inside of a home at 100 Amsterdam Drive. Bogaard says the homeowner responded quickly after they called the department, and opened doors to help ventilate some of the heat. Crews were able to put out the fire in the stove by removing the wood. Nobody was injured and no significant damage was reported. He reminds those with wood burning stoves to check on the ventilation system frequently, especially when winds become gusty on cold nights. Wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour were reported countywide during the overnight hours.
