The Pella Christian and PCM boys begin their playoff journeys tonight, and the former will have to beat the team that knocked them out of contention one year ago if they want to keep playing. The Eagles will take on the Albia Blue Demons, who beat the Mid Prairie Golden Hawks to advance to the match-up in Pella. The boys beat the Blue Demons back on January 10th in a make-up game, 58-49. Albia ended Pella Christian’s season in Oskaloosa last year with a 67-60 win, when now senior Matt Baker dropped 30 points on the Eagles. Head Coach Larry Hessing says while he likes the feel of playing in opening round games, he’s very pleased to have had a bye to give his guys some much needed rest and prep time for the rivalry showdown. The Mustangs finished tied atop the Heart of Iowa Conference, but must contend with a Davis County team that has some momentum on their side, having won five of their last six, including a win over Albia a few weeks ago. Coach Fred Lorensen says his guys need to be prepared to be in a dogfight each and every playoff game this year. Our coverage begins at 6:10 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS and kniakrls.com, with myself Cory Houser and Andrew Schneider on the call.
