Area wrestlers took the mat on Thursday for the chance to win an individual state wrestling title.
Chase Petty was the first to wrestle in the Class 3A State Tournament. Petty was unable to get his offense going, losing both matches, as he ended his season with a record of 38-8. Tristan Clark picked up an exciting win to move onto the 126 pound quarterfinal today for PCM. Brock Caviness showed how dangerous he can be on the mat on Thursday. After losing his first match, Caviness found himself down 8-7 in the third period of his consolation match and with just over a minute left in the match he tossed, number six rated Nathan Heath to his back for the upset win to continue in the tournament. Knoxville’s 145 pound senior Kevin Woodhouse, AND Griffen McBride and Joe Kauffman of Pleasantville wrestled solid matches, but could not get over the hump as all three wrestlers saw their seasons come to a close. Jacob Hoch (Hoke) at 160 pounds and Ty Schneider at 195 pounds both won their first round matches to advance to the quarterfinal in the respective weight classes. Tate Vandyne at 220 pounds lost both of his matches on Thursday night to end his season with a record of 49-6.
