Knoxville played Pella tough, but it was the Lady Dutch that ran away with it in the second half, defeating the Panthers, 74 – 44, in Saturday’s Class 4A regional tournament semifinal game, which was live on 92.1 KRLS and AM 1320/FM 95.3 KNIA. Much like their first encounter the Lady Dutch got out to a big lead in the first quarter; scoring 22 points to Knoxville’s eight. The Panthers used some aggressive play in the second quarter to keep things close by intermission, but it was all Pella in the third; outscoring Knoxville 25 – 7 to put the game too far out of reach. Jessica Holterhaus led all scorers with 19 points, Ashley Hawkshead led the Panthers with 16. Pella has won 17 straight and move on to the regional final on Tuesday against Carlisle. Knoxville’s season comes to a close with a mark of 18 – 5, and they lose a trio of seniors from their varsity squad.
