A Melcher-Dallas man has been sentenced to 9 years and 30 days in prison for having a physical altercation with a woman in Knoxville.

35-year-old Miles Richard Leavengood was found guilty by a jury in December of Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class C Felony, Domestic Abuse – Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and Tampering with a Witness. He was found not guilty of False Imprisonment. Another charge of Stalking was dismissed.
“Miles Leavengood was on probation when he committed a series of assaults on his then girlfriend, while in her home, with her children present,” said Marion County Attorney Ed Bull. “I am pleased that the Court sentenced Mr. Leavengood to consecutive sentences, and held him accountable to the maximum sentence allowable under the law. He will also will be required to complete batters education classes while incarcerated. I sincerely hope the opportunity afforded Mr. Leavengood to spend a significant period of time behind bars serves him well. He must make changes to his life to live as a productive member of society, otherwise prison will continue to be a revolving door for him.”
Assistant County Attorney Nicole Olsen said, “I wish to thank the victim of this case and her children for having the courage to confront Mr. Leavengood. Without their cooperation, the tireless efforts of Krissy Link in our office, and Office Eric How, of the Knoxville Police Department, Mr. Leavengood may have not been held accountable for his criminal behavior.”
Knoxville police arrested Leavengood on July 6th after a physical altercation with a woman. Court records say the victim told police Leavengood tried to strangle her after the two had been in an argument following several hours of drinking. After the incident, Leavengood reportedly violated a no contact order by attempting to call and email the victim.
Leavengood has filed a request for a new trial in the case.
