A historic building near Leighton was damaged after a vehicle left the roadway on Highway 163 and collided with the structure Monday morning.
Officials received a call at 6:30 AM for an SUV on fire after it hit the Halfway Station. A state trooper arrived at the scene and was able to quickly put out the fire. Mahaska County Deputies, Pella Rural Fire, and Pella Ambulance assisted at the scene. No significant injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
