The Iowa House of Representatives and Senate continue their impasse when it comes to the state supplemental aid increase for schools.
State Representative Guy Vander Linden says the 1.25% increase passed in the House is what the state can afford, and that there’s no wiggle room from that number due to other budget obligations. He says he talked to schools in his district about the potential for a political battle over state aid prior to the session beginning. The standstill between Senate Democrats and House Republicans could mean no increase for schools for the upcoming budget if they don’t pass a bill by the end of the session.
