Emergency crews responded to a gas main break in Knoxville early Monday evening.
Knoxville Fire and Rescue were called to Third and Main Streets in the downtown square at around 5:20pm after a construction crane hit a gas line.
Knoxville City Fire Chief Jim Mitchell says buildings were evacuated on the east and north side of the square. There were no reports of injuries.
Mitchell said emergency crews ran hoses to channel as much of the gas as possible.
Alliant Energy was called to either clamp or plug the leak and re-light the pilot lights in all the buildings affected. It was later determined that the gas line was only connected to the Marion County Courthouse.
Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Police Department, and Alliant Energy all responded to the call.
