An ugly end to their trip to Waverly against Wartburg, the Central baseball team, on short rest, shutdown Simpson on Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep. The Dutch ended up on top, 1 – 0 and 2 – 1, and faced the Storm’s top pitchers in the twinbill. Matt Schissel outdueled his counterpart by turning in a two-hit shutout effort in game one. Central’s lone run in that game came in the first frame thanks to an RBI double by Kirby Coppess. Central again struck early in the nightcap, with single runs in the first and third, while four Dutch pitchers combined to allow one run on five hits, just two walks, and seven strikeouts. Their record is now 7 – 10 overall, and the Dutch’s conference mark is evened up at 3 – 3. They are off until Friday when they host Dubuque to begin a four-game series. The second game of that doubleheader can be heard live on KNIAKRLS.com, starting at around 3:30 p.m.
