Only having played once on their home field, the Central baseball team will begin an eight-game homestand against Iowa Conference foes today, with a doubleheader against Dubuque. The Dutch are fresh off of two, one-run victories over Simpson to even up their conference record at 3 – 3. The Spartans have stumbled out of the gate, going 1 – 5 through six league games, and are 6 – 12 overall. Both teams have struggled offensively over the last few weeks; Central has averaged 3.7 runs per game while the Spartans have put up just three-a-game themselves. Coach Matt Schirm is happy with the progress the younger players are making that are out there with his upperclassmen. You can hear the nine-inning nightcap of today’s doubleheader live on KNIAKRLS.com via the KNIA2 stream, with Cory Houser and Andrew Schneider on the play-by-play. Pre-game coverage is slated to begin at 3:15 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 3:30.
