A bill to allow school start dates to begin no earlier than August 23rd has been sent to Governor Terry Branstad for his signature.
District 14 State Senator Amy Sinclair is for the compromise, saying they knew the governor would not allow school districts to have total control on the matter, so the best option was to ask for a start date that would give school districts some wiggle room.
Sinclair says school districts will now have an extra week to fluctuate their start dates and the bill also contains provisions to allow already existing year-round schools in the state to continue on that calendar.
