With another funnel eliminating a large portion of bills at the Iowa Statehouse, the legislature’s work is expected to become budget-heavy.
State Senator Ken Rozenboom says it’s this time of year that the appropriations committee begins to break down the state’s finances.
“The overall budgeting process really has barely begun. All of the appropriations have to be done yet,” Rozenboom says.
“It’s the nature of what we do that the spending decisions that have to be made have to wait until near the end of the session when all of the policy matters have been decided.”
Rozenboom expects school funding to remain the primary focus in the coming weeks, but adds that there are still a lot of other areas that need attention financially.
