The Marion County Board of Supervisors took the first step in managing the loss of a building owned by the county in downtown Knoxville.
During a special session Wednesday, the board agreed to file a proof of loss with their insurance company, ICAP, for the demolished building located at 113/115 Third St. According to ICAP Representative George Capps, this action will allow the county to recoup 90 percent of the demolition cost immediately.
Chris Hoegh, who owns the neighboring building where Prudential First of Knoxville Realty is located, asked the board to have a discussion about when it could be occupied, but was told it had to be added as an agenda item for the board to discuss it. While only the city of Knoxville can reopen access to the building, there are insurance issues involving the county that must be resolved. Prudential’s owners have not been allowed to enter the business since March 14th.
The matter is expected to be added to the Tuesday, April 14th, Board of Supervisor’s agenda.
