Buddy Poppies are back!
The Knoxville and Pella Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are planning to distribute Buddy Poppies late next month.
Knoxville Ladies Auxiliary Post 3519’s Christine Shaw says the movement began in 1922. The poppy is the VFW’s official memorial flower, representing the blood shed by American service members and as a reminder that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Shaw says disabled veterans assemble poppies and the VFW pays them for their work.
Buddy Poppies will be distributed on May 22nd and 24th with proceeds going to veterans’ welfare or the well-being of their dependents.
