The final town hall meeting in Knoxville for District 28 State Representative Greg Heartsill and District 14 State Senator Amy Sinclair this session allowed for discussion of a possible compromise regarding school funding.

The proposal would have the House Republican’s 1.25 percent increase in SSA funds be approved but would also include a one-time $55 million lump sum for schools. This essentially puts school funding at the 2.45 percent proposed by Senate Democrats.
Knoxville School Superintendent Cassi Murra thanked both legislators for the changes made to at-risk funds to better help districts manage their funds. Murra says she would be satisfied with the compromise saying it’s better than nothing.
Sinclair also wants to look for ways in the future to make school funding more predictable.
