District 28 State Representative Greg Heartsill says he would be fine with a proposed compromise in school funding that could bring an end to the deadlock regarding the state budget.
The proposal would include a 1.25 percent increase in supplemental state aid and an additional, one-time $55 million lump sum for schools.
School funds have been a major sticking point for this year’s budget, with House Republicans holding steady with the Governor’s proposed 1.25 percent and Senate Democrats asking for a much higher percentage, starting at 6 percent then reducing it down to 2.45 percent.
