Tulip Time marked the end of a busy six months for five local high school girls tasked with representing Pella.
Queen Eleanor Witt says the 2015 Royal Court enjoyed the annual festival. Witt was able to swap stories with past queens at a special brunch Saturday morning.
“One of the queens, [that year] they were having a fundraiser and had to paint a thermometer on the Tulip Toren,” she says. “So she landed on the top of the Tulip Toren in a helicopter, and got in a swing, and got to paint it.”
She says it was also fun to take an active role in some of the grandstand entertainment for the first time.
“The army band was here and they were playing some really fun music,” she says. “The photographer, Holly, was saying that we should go dance. So we took the flower girls and the pages and we all went in the street and danced, and a bunch of other kids came and danced with us.”
Witt and her court–Jessi Vos, Megan Atkins, Emily Van Gorp, and Leah Wilborn, will head to Orange City’s Tulip Festival this weekend.
