Last week, the Knoxville City Council nominated Penny Sommar to the city’s civil service commission while accepting the resignation of two others from the Parks Advisory Committee.

The need for volunteers to take part in Knoxville boards and commissions is growing, according to Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart. He says people are living busy lives and it’s leading to a shortage of volunteers not just in Knoxville but nationwide.
Stewart says the council could look to consolidate some boards and committees if not enough volunteers can be found. He asks anyone interested in volunteering to fill out an application on the city’s website.
