Jake DeRuiter’s strong offensive day was just enough to help Pella Christian’s boys’ soccer team to get by Grinnell yesterday, 2 – 1. Both goals by DeRuiter came in the first half, and Jacob Brouwer and Adam Roorda each picked up assists. An already depleted Eagles’ girls’ team suffered more key injuries in a 9 – 2 loss to the Tigers. Coach Mike Buchheit tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his team played their best half of the season against Grinnell, only trailing by a score of 3 – 1. Julia Dykstra and Haylie Van Maanen both had to leave because of injuries. Barb Costa assisted on the first goal by Cailey Terpstra in the 32′, and Terpstra found the nylon in the 78′. PC’s boys are now 5 – 6, the girls drop to 3 – 9; the Eagle boys play Carlisle at home on Thursday, and the girls host Centerville on Tuesday.
