The Pella High soccer teams each allowed a goal to Oskaloosa, but neither was enough to overtake the Dutch yesterday on the pitch. Three unanswered goals in the second half helped the Little Dutch sink the Indians, 3 – 1. Oskaloosa used a free kick in the waning moments of the first half to take a 1 – 0 lead, and that score held until the final 13 minutes of regulation, when Pella found nylon thrice to finish 5 – 1 on the year in the conference, just a game behind Norwalk, and 13 – 4 overall. On the girls’ side, the Lady Dutch had to fight off a furious Indian rally to win 2 – 1. Both goals for Pella came in the first half, off the feet of Bellara Huang and Kayla Langstraat, the latter of which scored despite being out-manned 4-to-1 on a breakaway. Coach Mark Howard says Oskaloosa challenged and played strong, and his team has some things to focus on before they could face one another in the regional tournament. The Lady Dutch are now 10 – 1 overall, and they are 5 – 0 in the L-H-C. Both teams are in action on Thursday; the boys play Perry and the girls try to tackle Ankeny Centennial. Pella is at home for both games.
