Pella Christian is sending a doubles pair and Pella is sending a freshman to the girls state tennis tournament in Ankeny. Eagles Senior Andrea De Bruin and Junior Rachel Tvedt earned a gold medal in Regionals doubles action, and Pella’s Lily Rozenboom placed 2nd in singles to advance. De Bruin and Tvedt say a lot of hard work in the offseason paid off in a big way with their performance on Thursday afternoon.
“This is our first time doing doubles, last year we both did singles–but we have great communication on the court, and I think that’s what really helped us,” De Bruin says.
Rozenboom says she’s come a long way in her first season on varsity.
“As a freshman, I didn’t really know what the competition was,” she says. “But once I started my season, after I won couple, I got some confidence and it made me work harder.”
Knoxville’s Taylor Carter and her partner, Avery Neer, finished in third place in the doubles’ bracket. The Class 1A State Singles and Doubles tournament is set to take place on June 4th and 5th in Ankeny. Full results are located below.
