The Knoxville City Council has directed staff to come up with proposals to change safety standards for golf carts within the city limits.
City manager Harold Stewart says there needs to be clarification in the code regarding golf carts. He says it’s a safety issue and a hazard. Stewart believes a change should be made, whether it is limiting the number of people in the golf cart to one per space provided or requiring seat belts.
Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada is in favor of changes to the code regarding golf carts and will submit some proposals for the council to consider. Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell also stated he’s in favor of some sort of code change.
The topic was brought before the council by a concerned citizen who felt seat belts should be required on all golf carts.
